A guide to using a hair spray
Hair spray is used to hold a hairstyle, and there is a wide range of hair sprays available in the market for curly, color treated, dry hair, and sun-exposed hair. There are also perfume-free sprays for those who are sensitive to smells and perfumes.
You need to select a spray made for a particular purpose. You can use a light spray so that your hair moves naturally even after spraying. A hair spray should hold the hair strongly even in rough weather. There are also hair sprays that use varnishes and are used to style individual strands of the hair or to style short hair.
Applying hair spray
- There are hair sprays that do not allow the hair strands to stick to each other. Keep the nozzle of the spray 12 inches away from the hair and spray it in a continuous motion.
- Before you spray, you need to ensure that the nozzle is not closed shut; otherwise, the spray will leave the can in spurts and not as mist.
- If you want volume, shake the can, put your head down, letting your hair fall, and then throw it back. Lift each strand, apply the hair spray, and allow it to dry.
- For those with very short hair, lift the top layer of hair and apply the spray from below at an angle at the ends.
- Since hair spray contains alcohol, it dries the scalp and hair, so those with sensitive skin and scalp should only spray at the hair ends.
- To give a hairstyle hold and bounce, spray liberally over the hair and use heated rollers in the hair, employ a curling iron, or pull the hair ends with a floating iron. Use the spray over your hairdo.
- Hair spray also helps fight against oily roots. Fringes look oily before the longer strands of hair do. Use a round brush to separate freshly washed fringes, and pull the hair away from the skin before applying a small amount of spray on it.
- Do not use hair spray if you have oily hair as it also provides a glossy finish and adds shine.
- If you wish to just settle a few strands of hair, you can spray it on your hands and use this to smoothen the hair.
- If your eyebrows are unruly and you wish to get a fine eyebrow line, you can use hair spray lightly on the eyebrow brush before using it.
Hair spray could be used for various reasons. Here are some common uses:
- Raise your hair and spray at the scalp for volume. You can then blow dry and use mousse to get amazing volume.
- Spray onto the brush and sweep the hair back for a sleek ponytail.
- Mist the dry hair from 12 inches before you use the curling iron.
- Use a dry shampoo to soak the grease /oil from the hair as powders help keep oil at bay.
- Do not spray on freshly blow-dried hair.
