Hair glue is used to attach hair extensions or wigs to the scalp. Choosing the best one is quite important as hair glue can also cause damage the scalp and hair. Keratin glue seems to be the preferred choice as it does not cause any damage to the hair and scalp.

Liquid hair gel is made from silicone or acrylic. This glue dries when it comes in contact with the air and offers an almost semi-permanent hold. This glue can last up to six weeks. It needs to be removed carefully with the help of alcohol or a solvent, and the removal process should be done by an expert.

Bonding glue is another type of glue and comes in thick liquid form. It dries when exposed to heat, thus creating a flexible rubber base for hair extensions. This glue is best for bonding hair wefts used for temporary hair extensions. This glue, although temporary, can last up to three weeks and has to be removed with the help of citrus oil or a heavy conditioner.

Keratin glue is made from a protein base and is available in the form of semi-hard chips. The hair is attached to these chips to create strand extensions that are weaved onto the scalp. It is malleable under extreme heat and becomes solid at room temperature. It is an expensive glue and removing it requires an expert and lots of hard work. Removing keratin glue requires a removal agent that can be purchased from a local store.

Tapes are used to attach wigs of different shapes and sizes according to an individual’s requirement. The wig can hold almost till 4 weeks. Depending on the adhesive inside the tape, it can be removed with the help of a solvent or just peeled out.

Hair style glue is not really a glue but a product that has a strong hold and contains alcohol or wax. The styling gel creates an air-dried hold and is easily soluble in water.

Hair glue can cause damage to the hair and scalp. If not removed properly it can block scalp pores and damage hair follicles. It can also burn and dry the hair.

Taking care of hair extensions is also important. You’ll need a subtle shampoo and condition it without scrubbing. You need to be gentle with your hair and the hair extensions.

As the hair extension is attached to your head or hair, you will have to wash them along with the natural hair. Do not scrub your hair while wearing hair extensions. You can take shampoo in your hands, rub them together, and just run your fingers through the hair strands. You can also shampoo the wefts. Remember to condition the extensions once a week. Use a moisturizing conditioner or a subtle shampoo.

For styling your extensions, you will need to heat them to curl or style them. Extensions can last a long time. You should remove them every 2 to 3 weeks, if you can apply them yourself. Be gentle with the hair extension and you can keep reusing them. Hair glue can cost anywhere between $4 to $25.
