Remedies to cure black spots on lips

A luscious pair of lips is something everyone wants. Besides cracked and chapped lips, many face the problem of black spots on the lips. There are many reasons for dark or black spots on the lips. Before you start treating them you need to know the reason for black spots:

  • Vitamin B and mineral deficiency result in a change in texture and appearance of nails, hair, and lips. You need to consult a doctor for treatment and to find out if you suffer from any other symptoms of vitamin B deficiency and other complications.
  • Using old lip products like lipstick and lip balms beyond the expiry date may result in black spots.
  • Harmful chemicals are released from smoking and can damage your lips.
  • Alcohol disrupts the normal functioning of the body. It leads to dark spots on the lips.
  • Excess of iron in the body leads to black spots which make the lips look black and unhealthy. A simple test tells you if there was too much iron.
  • Dryness of the lips or chapping serves as a breeding ground for infection and can lead to spots.
  • Hormonal imbalance may need treatment.

Here are a few methods with which you can get rid of black spots:

  • Apple cider vinegar : It removes dark spots. Dip cotton swab and dab it and leave for a few minutes. Do it two/three times a day. It acts as a skin lightening agent and also has infection treating properties. The acid exfoliates the dark skin to reveal great lips.
  • Almond oil:  You need just two drops, massage it on the lips and leave it overnight. You can apply every night. The oil hydrates the lips, getting rid of the spots and the dryness. It also has mild bleaching properties.
  • Lemon and honey:  You need just two drops of honey and two drops of lemon juice. Mix and apply on the dark spot on the lips, let it dry and rinse it off. Do it twice a day. Lemon juice is a natural bleach and an antiseptic agent.
  • Beetroot helps to hide spots:  Keep a cut beetroot slice in the fridge and rub the slice on the lips for two or three minutes. Apply on lips and keep on for five minutes and then wash it off. Do it every day. This vegetable is helpful in getting rid of spots on the lips and also removes dead skin and hydrates it.
  • Rose petal and glycerin:  Crush two to three rose petals and mix with one teaspoon glycerin. Apply it on the lips as a mask, keep it on for around 10 minutes and rinse with water. You can do it once a day. This hydrates the lips and also makes them more elastic. Black spots are due to irritation and vitamin E improves the skin, hydrating it as it also has antioxidant properties.
  • Pomegranate:  Mash one tablespoon of pomegranate seeds and mix them with ¼th teaspoon rosewater or milk cream. Apply on the lips, keep it on for 2-3 minutes and wash it off with water. You can repeat it every other day. These seeds moisturize the lips, heal the dark spots and regenerate the skin.
